R Smart: Rutgers No. 10 in APR

Rutgers football continues to set an academic example when it comes to hard work in the classroom. For the sixth time in seven years, Rutgers ranks in the top 10 for Academic Progress Rate.

Rutgers is No. 10 overall and tops in the conference when it comes to football APR. With an overall score of 980 out of 100, Rutgers was again one of the best in the country.

The APR became a source of pride for Rutgers under former coach Greg Schiano, and the focus continued when coach Kyle Flood took over the program. Flood has seen three top-10 rankings since taking over the program.

"It is a credit to the hard work by our student-athletes in the classroom and the excellent guidance and direction from Jenna Beverly and our academic support staff to achieve our sixth Top-10 APR score in the last seven years," Flood said in a statement.

APR gauges graduate and, "holds Division I institutions accountable for the academic progress of their student-athletes through the Academic Progress Rate, a team-based metric that accounts for the eligibility and retention of each student-athlete, each term" according to the NCAA.
