Bateky aims to end his recruitment within the next two months. No schools have been cut from his offer sheet, but three sit in the lead. Rutgers was in to see him Wednesday.
"It's not 100 percent sure, but right now Rutgers, Boston College and West Virginia are my top three right now," he said. " … I've liked Rutgers for a while. I talk to them a lot. I went to their junior day a few months ago when they offered me. It's been good to see more about them."
Rutgers was the second school to offer Bateky after Western Michigan, and it happened in person.
"It was pretty cool to talk straight to coach [Kyle] Flood in his office," he said. "It was kind of overwhelming."
Bateky said he has not heard as much from Flood since the offer, but defensive line coach Jim Panagos is in constant contact.
"I feel like they're a team that really wants to win, and they're very interested in me," Bateky said. "They're going to do what it takes, and I like that about them."
West Virginia also stands out to the 6-foot-3, 220-pound defensive end for its football prominence.
"I like that West Virginia is all about football," he said. "They're focused on it. It's a priority all the time in an environment like that. I really like that about them."
Bateky has a visit set for Boston College at the start of June, where he hopes to spend time with head coach Steve Addazio.
"I really like the academics there," he said. "They're a school with tradition. They've beaten Notre Dame multiple times, and they have a lot of history as a program."
Bateky plans to make a decision within "a month or two."
"I'm trying to narrow it down and pick my school soon," he said. "I feel like it's slowing down now, and I'm kind of dragging my feet. It will be good to just go for it and pick a school and be happy with it."
