Rutgers Offers Jacksonville ATH Barr

Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian receiver Chris Barr added a Rutgers offer Sunday after a conversation with the coaching staff. Barr discussed his newest offer and where Rutgers stands in a conversation with Scout.com.

Rutgers is still new to Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian receiver Chris Barr, but he likes what he knows so far.

Barr, a 5-foot-11 receiver and defensive back, was surprised by adding a Rutgers offer, he said.

"I wasn't expecting it, but I'm very happy about it," Barr said. "I know some stuff about them, but I look forward to learning more about them now that they offered."

The offer came through Sunday during a conversation with defensive backs coach Darrell Wilson, who spent the end of the spring evaluation period in Jacksonville.

"[Wilson] saw me this week and then he messaged me on Facebook today to give him a call," Barr said. "We were talking for about 10 minutes and he said he told their head coach [Kyle] Flood that they really wanted me. Then he offered me."

Rutgers had success in the Jacksonville area in 2014, bringing in cornerback Kam Lott and fullback Jacob Kraut.

Barr is aware of the recent Rutgers presence in his area, and said he enjoyed getting to know Wilson.

"He was really good to talk to," Barr said. "We were talking more about life, and what I want to do. He's the kind of coach that wants you to do well, and will want you to be successful even if you go to another school. He seems like a good mentor."

Rutgers joins the Big Ten in one month, which is another draw for Barr.

"I think the Big Ten is a good fit for me," Barr said.

Rutgers is the sixth Big Ten school to offer Barr and 15th overall.
