10 Days Until The Big Ten

Rutgers University sits 10 days away from Big Ten membership, and ScarletReport.com is here to count down the days in style. A new conference means a significantly different schedule. Rutgers faces new opponents in the conference, but there are plenty of storylines with each opponent. We'll look at all of them, continuing with Michigan State.

Rutgers plays eight games within the conference, and that continues with a home game against Michigan State.

2014 matchup -- Nov. 22 at Michigan State. Kickoff time and TV station to be determined.

Series: -- Rutgers leads 2-1

Last Meeting: -- Rutgers upset Michigan State 19-14 on Sept. 4, 2004.

September marks the 10-year anniversary of one of the biggest early wins in the Greg Schiano era at Rutgers. Approaching the hot seat in year four, Schiano opened up the season with a stunning 19-14 victory over the Big Ten's Michigan State.

Thanks to four Jeremy Ito field goals and a pick six from Ryan Neill, the Rutgers Stadium crowd went home happy. Quarterback Ryan Hart was good for 241 yards, and a young Brian Leonard grinded out the clock with 150 rushing yards.

Expect to hear the name Shilique Calhoun early and often when it comes to preparing for Michigan State. Calhoun picked Michigan State over Rutgers and moved west to become a rock star for the Spartans. An All-American candidate, Calhoun has 43 tackles, 16.5 TFLs and 8.5 sacks in two seasons at Michigan State. He has playing experience against multiple Scarlet Knights, including quarterback Mike Bimonte and defensive tackle Daryl Stephenson.

Vanderbilt transfer James Kitteredge of Michigan State is a Don Bosco Prep guy. He is a fifth-year senior that won a state title at Don Bosco with Gary Nova as his quarterback.

Michigan State's Pat Narduzzi was the assistant coach of the year in 2013, and pits his defensive coordinator reputation head-to-head with Ralph Friedgen and Rutgers. Narduzzi is one of the hottest names as a future head coach somewhere, and Friedgen has plenty of experience of his own with the Maryland Terrapins.
