Longa Talks LBs against Navy

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Rutgers faces the unique Navy offense Saturday and may have to do so without one of its most experienced players -- Kevin Snyder (questionable, lower body). For sophomore Steve Longa, that could mean a return to middle linebacker. No matter what, it's Longa's first look at the triple option in a career filled with making tackles.

If Kevin Snyder is unable to go, Rutgers coach Kyle Flood said that the middle linebacker job would fall to either Steve Longa or Quentin Gause.

For Longa, that means a return to the position where he became a freshman All-American. Longa has never faced a triple option, and plans to rely heavily on the older players and defensive coordinator Joe Rossi to get him ready.

Longa is off to a solid start at weakside linebacker this season with a team-high 24 tackles through three games. Whatever his role Saturday, Longa expects to be 100 percent focused on Navy with no hangover effects from losing to Penn State.
