Wednesday Practice Report: Building CB Depth

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Highlighted by the position change of Vance Matthews, Rutgers coach Kyle Flood continues to make moves to sure up a secondary with four top guys on the injury report. Flood discussed the move, and the latest, after Wednesday’s practice.

Rutgers coach Kyle Flood addressed the latest on the injury front and personnel updates leading into kickoff against Tulane, which includes a position change.

The Headline -- Cornerback remains a patchwork job with three of the top four guys on the injury report and working their way back.

The latest news has Flood expecting four cornerbacks to play against Tulane, but who they are depends on the health of the team. Dre Boggs checks in at probable for the week with questionable notes for Nadir Barnwell and Gareef Glashen.

“We'll play the guys that are ready to go," Flood said.

Walk-on receiver Vance Matthews moved to cornerback by request this week, but will not factor into the mix right away, Flood said.

Worth Noting -- Freshman running backs Josh Hicks and Robert Martin remain even in pushing for the third spot to replace Paul James. Flood does not expect to use four running backs against Tulane, which means both still have the chance to earn playing time.

Quote of the Day -- “Winning, helping the team win is obviously the main goal and that’s why I’m here. We’re hurting at corner a little bit. Coming out and helping in whatever way I can is a definitely a main priority for me.” – Matthews on his position change.

On the Other Side -- Tulane coach Curtis Johnson had plenty to say about Rutgers and the upcoming game during his game week luncheon.
