Wednesday Practice Report: Bujari Returns

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Wednesday practice has come and gone for Rutgers football as kickoff gets closer against Ohio State on primetime television. Rutgers coach Kyle Flood updated the injury status of center Betim Bujari and running back Paul James after practice as well as looked ahead to the keys to beating Ohio State.

Rutgers coach Kyle Flood addressed the latest in preparation for Ohio State and the return of a key senior to the practice field.

The Headline -- Center Betim Bujari returned to practice Wednesday with goals of starting against Ohio State. Bujari missed practice Tuesday with Chris Muller filling in, but is back to work in Piscataway.

Flood did not offer an injury update, but was optimistic in discussing Bujari.

“He did just about everything,” Flood said. “… We feel pretty good about the direction that’s heading.”

Muller and backup Derrick Nelson replaced Bujari Tuesday, and moved back to their regular roles Wednesday.

“I thought we looked pretty good yesterday,” Flood said. “Betim is a good football player. He’s played a lot of football. He’s played in a lot of these kind of competitive games, so we certainly want him out there.”

Worth Noting -- Running back Paul James underwent successful ACL surgery Wednesday morning. James tweeted the news during the Rutgers practice, and Flood confirmed it in his post-game press conference. The timing of the surgery allows for James to get back to full strength for training camp.

Quote of the Day -- “This is an amazing opportunity. We’re 20-point underdogs, Big Ten, primetime TV, ABC. This is an amazing opportunity. It puts a smile on my face every time I hear about it. I’m just excited to go show them some Big Ten football.”

On the Other Side -- Ohio State continues its preparation for Rutgers, and spoke well of the Scarlet Knights during media availability this week.
