Thursday Practice Report: Game-time Decision

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – What is the final word before kickoff on the Rutgers quarterback situation. Head coach Kyle Flood broke it down in his final press conference of the week.

Rutgers coach Kyle Flood addressed Gary Nova and Chris Laviano with the media for the last time before kickoff against Wisconsin following Thursday’s walkthrough practice.

The Headline -- Gary Nova is a game-time decision, Flood announced Thursday after practice. He worked more each day in practice after his knee and ankle injuries against Nebraska, but has not been cleared by doctors for in-game action.

“I think we’re probably looking at a game-time decision,” Flood said. “ … I don’t envision a situation where they’re going in and out. I don’t think so. I think, whoever starts the game, you’ve got to give them a chance to get in a rhythm and see the defenses and progress through the game.”

Laviano worked the majority of the week as the first-team quarterback after finishing with a solid half against Nebraska.

“I think he’s done a good job,” Flood said. “He has carried himself like a starting quarterback this week in every way.”

Worth Noting -- Look for a situation where running backs Desmon Peoples and Justin Goodwin alternate series as the starter with true freshman Robert Martin spelling both during drives. Flood did go in-depth on how all three will play, but alluded to how he used the trio against Nebraska.

Quote of the Day -- “I am surprised by it. I’m disappointed. I thought he was a tremendous candidate for that award. But David’s a guy who is going to be very successful in life, and I think he’ll be recognized for it in a lot of ways.” – Flood on David Milewski missing the cut for the “Academic Heisman.”

On the Other Side -- Scout.com’s Wisconsin site spoke with Rutgers players during Big Ten media day about building its identity.
