Burton Excels Via Walk-on Path

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Michael Burton is all business going into his final home game as a Rutgers football player. A walk-on from North Jersey turned fifth-year senior team captain, Burton spoke 1-on-1 with Scout.com about his journey and his focus on the game itself.

The Burlsworth Trophy goes annually to "a collegiate player who began their career as a walk-on and has shown outstanding performance on the field."

No wonder Michael Burton is a finalist.

The fifth-year senior began as a walk-on from Chester (N.J.) West Morris Central and leaves Rutgers as a team captain, three-year starter and impact fullback.

How did Burton climb so high? Stay focused on the task at hand. Burton prides himself on hard work and focus, and senior day is no different.

Instead of enjoying a week of reflection and memories, Burton has nothing but Indiana in his cross-hairs.
