Wednesday Practice Report: Next Man Up

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Rutgers went inside during the first snow of the winter season on campus. Working a spirited practice inside the practice facility, the Scarlet Knights are one step closer to kickoff against Maryland with injury questions in the secondary and the chance to finish with a winning record.

The first snow practice of the season came to Piscataway with Rutgers inside its practice bubble to prepare for Maryland. While a handful of Scarlet Knights enjoyed their first snow on the walk back to the locker room, coach Kyle Flood met the media for the latest.

The Headline -- Starters Lorenzo Waters (lower body) and Nadir Barnwell (upper body) are both questionable for Maryland kickoff. That means opportunities elsewhere in the defensive secondary.

The now-healthy Andre Hunt is in the mix for sub-packages with safety Davon Jacobs in line to start should Waters be unable to go.

“With the situation with Nadir, we really need all hands on deck,” Flood said. “[Hunt] has taken a lot of reps in practice and is somebody who’s going to have to have a role on Saturday.”

Hunt missed a month with an injury of his own. He said he is ready to contribute in whatever way possible.

“I can handle whatever the coaches ask me to do,” Hunt said. “I’m confident in getting the job done.”

Worth Noting -- Flood spoke highly of the way true freshman quarterback Giovani Rescigno threw the ball as the scout team quarterback this week.

“I thought, watching the warm up, that he’s throwing the ball better which is exciting,” Flood said. “His opportunities are going to come as we get into bowl prep and into the spring.

Quote of the Day -- “I used to work at a night club, so that had to be where I picked it up,” – fullback Kevin Marquez on his special teams hit against Indiana.

On the Other Side -- Maryland quarterback C.J. Brown said it would “mean the world” to him to have Ralph Friedgen in College Park, Md. for his senior day after fond memories as an underclassman.

Now sit back and take in Flood’s press conference.
