Jacobs Ready and Willing

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Davon Jacobs is the next man up at strong safety, and his time could come Saturday with the injury status of starter Lorenzo Waters. Jacobs is back at safety in year three after working as a linebacker last season. He spoke with Scarlet Report this week about extra work in practice and his readiness to step into the spotlight.

Sophomore Davon Jacobs steps in as a starter this week if Lorenzo Waters cannot go with his lower body injury. The Wayne (N.J.) DePaul product saw extra practice time this week, and said he is ready to make his first career start if asked.

No matter what happens Saturday, it is a big bowl season for Jacobs, who will compete for a starting safety job in spring after Waters and Johnathan Aiken depart.

Jacobs addressed it all in a pre-Thanksgiving practice, including his reunion with high school teammate Kiy Hester.
