Rutgers To Detroit, Likely Face UNC

Rutgers accepted a bid to play in the Quick Lane Bowl at Ford Field, a source told Scarlet Report. The Detroit-based bowl game likely pits the 7-5 Scarlet Knights against North Carolina in the first year as Big Ten members.

It is Christmas in the 313 for Rutgers, which accepted a bid to play in the Quick Lane Bowl, sources told Scarlet Report.

The Scarlet Knights project to face North Carolina in the Detroit-based bowl game played at the site of the Detroit Lions.

“We really believe that if we bring the best possible matchup to Ford Field, whether it’s ticket sales or how the game plays on national television, that will be the best product,” said Quick Lane Bowl communications director Ben Manges. “That’s ultimately what we’re interested in is promoting the best product.”

Detroit got its wish in a matchup with plenty of storylines. Rutgers and North Carolina split a recent series, including a Scarlet Knight win during its magical 2006 season.

The Tar Heels finished 6-6 in the ACC this season.

Rutgers (7-5, 3-5) scheduled a press conference for 7 p.m. at the Hale Center regarding the bowl berth. Coach Kyle Flood and team captains address the media, and fourth straight bowl appearance.
