Chatham (Va.) Hargrave Military Academy guard Justin Goode joins the program as an early enrollee this week, and drove to Piscataway Saturday in time to watch the Scarlet Knights (8-6, 0-1).
“It gets me ahead of everyone else,” Goode said on early enrollment. “I can get in and get used to the classes and kind of have a leg up. I’ll know the system, know the plays. That’s going to help me out.”
The 6-foot-3 Goode was a full qualifier out of high school, and chose early enrollment at Rutgers after an official visit with teammate Kejuan Johnson. Goode red-shirts in the spring semester before he begins next season on the active roster.
The last prep school prospect on that path was Kadeem Jack.
“It definitely is exciting,” Goode said. “I didn’t know what Hargrave was going to bring, and then it became a great opportunity. I’m excited to be able to practice with the team and get a head start.”
Goode will not take the court until next season, but sees plenty of learning opportunities on campus this semester.
“I need to get bigger and stronger, so I can get ready to play as a freshman,” Goode said. “My goal is to learn the system and know the offense to be ready mentally to play next year. That’s definitely the goal.
“I see myself learning a lot from [Jordan]. He’s played at the highest level possible and knows everything there is to do to get to that level. It’s definitely going to benefit me.”
Goode has interest in a business major.
“Going up to Rutgers this early, it’s going to give me a chance to talk to everybody about what I want to do academically,,” Goode said. “I’ll be able to figure that out next week.”
