Williams, Daniels Give Strong Defensively

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Rutgers held Penn State to 47 points and the Big Ten's leading scorer -- D.J. Newbill -- seven points below his season average. Guards Mike Williams and Bishop Daniels led the defensive effort on the perimeter and broke down their first conference win as Scarlet Knights.

Rutgers (9-6, 1-1) held Penn State leading scorer D.J. Newbill to 4-of-17 shooting and 14 points in a 50-46 victory Saturday at the RAC.

With freshman Mike Williams as the starter and junior Bishop Daniels off the bench, the Scarlet Knights forced tough shots on the Big Ten's leading scorer and both played key roles in the win.

Williams' lone three-pointer came in the final five minutes of action , and Daniels consistently drew fouls on the way to an eight-point evening.
