Rutgers coach Kyle Flood often says football is best when it is regional. The Scarlet Knights added another non-conference opportunity to its schedule with a home-and-home agreement with Virginia Tech.
The Scarlet Knights host the Hokies Sept. 16, 2023 at High Point Solutions Stadium, and then travel to Blacksburg, Va., Sept. 21, 2024, at Lane Stadium.
“We are thrilled to renew this long regional rivalry,” Rutgers athletic director Julie Hermann said in a statement. “The chance for us, a Big Ten program, to compete against a great ACC opponent is a tremendous opportunity and gives our fans the ability to easily follow us to an important non-conference away game.”
Rutgers last faced Virginia Tech in the 2012 Russell Athletic Bowl after winning a share of the Big East Championship in Flood’s first season as Greg Schiano’s successor. The Hokies and quarterback Logan Thomas won 13-10 in overtime.
