New York City was nothing new for Jacksonville (Fla.) Creekside three-star receiver Rashad Blunt, but the three inches of snow in Piscataway was an eye-opener.
The talented Florida athlete officially visited Rutgers alongside 11 other verbal commits this weekend, and left more than satisfied with his experience.
“I was ready before my visit, but now I’m totally ready for Signing Day,” said Blunt, whose other offers included Cincinnati, Indiana and ECU. “…I got to meet everybody that I wanted to, and I got to spend a ton of time with them. That’s what I wanted.”
Blunt built long-distance relationships with multiple commits via phone and social media, but got his first in-person time with them over the weekend. The 6-foot-1 receiver spent time with defensive end Ron’Dell Carter, tight end Nakia Griffin and quarterback Michael Dare (on an unofficial visit).
Blunt also met with guys already on the roster, including host Kam Lott.
“I loved every second of it,” Blunt said. “It was really good, but I haven’t slept in a couple of days it feels like. I met a lot of people that I’ve been watching on TV and stuff. I met Gary [Nova] and PJ [James] and those guys. I felt like I belonged.”
Lott, also from Jacksonville, hosted Blunt and helped initially recruit him during the summer.
“Kam’s like my big brother,” Blunt said. “I’m glad he red-shirted, so maybe we can go through everything together if I don’t red-shirt. Kam was good to me. He showed me everything.”
New Jersey took on a minor snowstorm over the weekend that was anything but minor from the perspective of a native Floridian.
“I was outside when it was really snowing hard,” Blunt said. “We had fun with it, a bunch of snowball fights.”
