Rutgers Signing Day Superlatives

We take a deeper look at the Rutgers 2015 recruiting class, including the biggest prize in the class, the biggest sleeper, most likely to contribute early and more.

Biggest Recruiting Win

Schools lined up across the block for four-star Marques Ford’s services after he parted ways with Tennessee. Rutgers was first in the door, and after finishing second for Ford’s services in the summer, caught its biggest recruiting prize in the 2015 class.

Honorable Mentions -- Kamaal Seymour, Jarius Adams.

Instant Impact

Blessuan Austin is an impressive athlete with prep-school experience and fills a hole at a position of need. The injury-plagued cornerback position gets stronger with Austin’s addition.

Honorable MentionsIsaiah Johnson, Jawuan Harris.

Mr. Versatility

Coach Kyle Flood likes Ronnie James to start off as a cornerback and kick returner. James, like his big brother, brings unique athleticism. He can eventually fill multiple special teams roles. He could drop back to safety in subpackages. He has enough offensive experience to warrant a look at receiver or tailback if Rutgers needs help.

Honorable Mentions -- Kamaal Seymour, Jonah Jackson.

Future Team Captain

Like Dillon Panthers coach Eric Taylor likes to say, you’re a quarterback, you’re a captain. Michael Dare showed an early commitment to Rutgers that never wavered. He is popular among the 2015 class, and already built relationships with 2016 prospects as well.

Honorable Mentions -- Nakia Griffin, Ron’Dell Carter, Marques Ford.

Never Expected This in August

Kaiwan Lewis was a linebacker that Rutgers should have recruited more aggressively out of high school. The staff got a second crack when he announced his South Carolina departure.

Honorable Mentions -- Marques Ford, Najee Clayton.

Sleeper Cell

Jawuan Harris has the chance to be a lot more than his two-star ranking. He was the most productive receiver on one of the best high school teams in the country, and could be a similar weapon as Rutgers looks for the next step in Big Ten play.

Honorable Mentions -- Isaiah Johnson, Nakia Griffin.

Check Back in Two Years

Sidney Gopre is surely a weapon at weak side linebacker, but Rutgers is 0-2 in getting him enrolled. Flood hopes to have him in May, but junior college is another possibility.

Honorable Mentions -- Manny Taylor, Charles Snorweah.

The One That Got Away

Rutgers had the relationships with Juwan Johnson, and wide receiver was perhaps the top need in the class. Losing him early to Penn State hurt, but the three receivers Rutgers added lessen the disappointment.

Honorable Mentions -- Blake Camper, Manny Bowen, Tommy Hatton.
