Wednesday Practice Report: Movers and Shakers

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – After two practices down, Rutgers head coach Kyle Flood discusses where the Scarlet Knights stand in their ongoing quarterback battle and several other position groups facing spring shakeups.

Rutgers head coach Kyle Flood met the media Wednesday as the Scarlet Knights settle into spring practice.

The Headline -- The offensive line remains a shuffle position for Rutgers, which rotated multiple first-team guys at both left tackle and center on Wednesday. With senior Keith Lumpkin the latest limited player for spring, others saw time in his stead at left tackle including junior Ryan Brodie and red-shirt freshman Jacquis Webb.

Coach Mitch Browning’s position group remains flexible at center, where Derrick Nelson completed his second practice as the starter. Junior Chris Muller picked up more first-team work at center, and red-shirt freshman Dorian Miller joined him alongside starting left guard duties.

Worth Noting -- When asked about the quarterback completion, Flood discussed “both guys” in discussing Chris Laviano and Hayden Rettig while Giovanni Rescigno checks in on the third team.

“I see some good things from both guys,” Flood said. “I’m pleased with how they’re throwing the ball. I don’t know that they’re where they need to be just yet in the decision-making process, nor did I think they would be after two practices.”

Quote of the Day -- “The evaluation [on the offensive line] really will come down to who are the best five. And then, how do you build the depth from there? You’ve got to start with who the best five are because those are the ones who are going to go out for the first game.” – Flood discusses offensive line depth.

Now sit back and take in Flood’s press conference.
