Scout TV: Quarterbacks Recap Spring

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Quarterbacks Chris Laviano and Hayden Rettig are nowhere near the end of their Rutgers position battle. Both put solid finishes on their spring campaigns in Friday's scrimmage, and previewed the next step after the conclusion of the scrimmage.

Chris Laviano stole the show in Friday's scrimmage with an 8-for-10 passing mark, two touchdowns and 140 yards.

Hayden Rettig added 37 yards and 4-of-7 passing in his first appearance in front of Rutgers fans.

The quarterbacks remain locked as co-starters heading into summer in a battle to replace Gary Nova.

"I think both guys have done a good job," said coach Kyle Flood. "I think Chris is a little ahead right now, but that doesn’t surprise me because he’s had the advantage of playing in the games. Now they’re both going to have the opportunity to do what I think is one of the more important things that you do all year long, and that’s taking your team from the end of spring practice and make sure that when you come back in the fall, that first practice in the fall, you’re a better football team than you were in practice 15.”
