The 6-foot-2, 285-pound defensive tackle from Venice (Fla.) High “absolutely” expects to visit Rutgers in the summer after he picked up an offer.
“It’s a great school,” he said. “Obviously I know a little bit. It’s in New Jersey. From what I’ve heard, they are a great school for Kinesiology and sports science, which I want to study in college.”
Defensive line coach Jim Panagos visited Venice High during his spring evaluation time in Florida, and the offer came shortly afterwards.
“It’s exciting because me and coach Panagos have been building a close relationship over the past few months,” Hewitt said. “He’s a good guy, and he’s definitely someone I’d want to play for.
Panagos is the source for most of Hewitt’s early knowledge about the Scarlet Knights.
“He’s a little crazy in a good way,” Hewitt said. “He’s always fired up. You don’t want a boring guy to recruit you. You want someone on top of you. I really feel like they want me and I’m going to play if I go there.”
Hewitt visited Ohio State for its spring game in April, and plans to hit multiple schools with his father during a summer road trip. Rutgers will be one of those schools in a hosting role.
“Me and my dad are trying to set out a week where we go and visit all of the schools I want to see,” he said. “Hopefully after my spring game, we’ll narrow down to four or five schools to see before my senior season.”
