Rutgers has four offers out to 2017 quarterbacks, and Oakhurst (N.J.) Ocean Township’s Kenny Picket hopes to be the next local talent on the list for the Scarlet Knights.
The coaching staff visited Pickett during spring evaluation, and gets him on campus Friday night for the first camp of 2015.
“Rutgers is going to evaluate me at camp for an offer,” Pickett said. “Hopefully I can get one and get everything going.”
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound quarterback completed 60 percent of his passes as a sophomore for 1,438 yards and 14 touchdowns. He worked out in front of Rutgers, North Carolina Boston College, Temple and Old Dominion during spring evaluation.
Friday’s camp will be Pickett’s third visit to Rutgers.
“I’ve been there before and I’ve watched some of their games in the past,” Pickett said. “I love the campus and the coaches. The facilities were great, and I’m hoping that it goes well on my next visit.
“That’s definitely a school I’m targeting hard. It’s in state. It’s close to home, so that’s one of the schools I would definitely like to go to.”
Picket will also camp at Boston College this summer in search of his second verbal scholarship offer after he received one from Temple.
“I’m definitely looking to prove myself to the coaches, and show everyone what I can do,” Pickett said. “I do a lot of different things well. I want to show what I can do with all of the coaches watching.”
