Cumming (Ga.) Forsyth kicker Alex Barbir set Friday at 7 p.m. as his announcement date with three finalists.
The powerful kicker already knows the school, he said, and wants to announce his commitment before he takes a trip out of the country.
“It’s between Illinois, Rutgers and Navy because those are the three best that have offered me,” Barbir said. “I feel like Friday is the right day. I leave Saturday morning for Mexico, so I wanted to get it done before I leave. I let the coaches know that I committed, and at the end of the week I’ll be able to let everyone know officially.”
Barbir broke down his finalists in a conversation with Scout.
Rutgers -- “Rutgers, honestly, I really really love the coaching staff. One of the big things that they stress is the family. They have their F.A.M.I.L.Y. slogan. Going away from my family, I’d like to be with a family, so that’s something I really liked about Rutgers.”
Illinois -- “Illinois is a great football program, and they’ve got a great recruiting class they’re building. I know that the coaches really like me a lot, and they would really enjoy getting a commitment from me. They’re building up a great program for themselves.
Navy -- “The military schools provide for you something that a lot of schools can’t. What they teach you and what you get out of it is almost incomparable to a lot of places. The men that they build you to be, it’s unlike a lot of programs. Being able to have connections after those four years, everyone wants to take someone from Navy, or Army or Air Force. Navy, not only do they have a great football program, but what they give you after school is amazing.”
