Video: Rutgers QB Battle Almost Over

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Rutgers coach Kyle Flood could have his starting quarterback at any moment, and Scout is here to break down the latest between Hayden Rettig and Chris Laviano after a Saturday night scrimmage.

Rutgers is less than two weeks away from its first game and does not yet have a starting quarterback.

After both Chris Laviano and Hayden Rettig put up solid efforts Saturday night, time is almost up.

"I think we're getting close," coach Kyle Flood said. "I think there’s a minimal amount of time left until I feel like we need to make a decision and start moving forward towards the first game.’’Flood did not reset a timetable after his initial 7-10-day forecast did not result in a decision.

"I think the first thing we have to do is look at the film,” Flood said. “That’s the first thing that will happen. And then we’ll look at it, we’ll see if we’re ready to make a decision or not, and then we’ll get to (Monday) and we’ll practice and see who can take the corrections, because there’s always corrections regardless of how well they played.

"“There will be corrections that we have to make tomorrow, and we’ll see (which quarterback) makes those corrections and then ultimately I’ll make the decision.”
