Hayden Rettig became Rutgers' starting quarterback by default Tuesday following a Chris Laviano suspension. But head coach Kyle Flood did not endorse Rettig beyond the period of suspension during his Tuesday media session.
"I don't think we want to live in that world," Flood said when asked if Rettig remains the starter after the first half. "Right now the situation is what it is. Hayden is going to start the game and Chris is going to be suspended for the first half."
Rettig receives his first college football start next Saturday against Norfolk State after he transferred from LSU last year.
"I've worked hard to try to start and we were battling, so I'm happy I'm starting right now," Rettig said.
