Rutgers Training Camp Report: Day 19

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- The penultimate practice of training camp included updates from coach Kyle Flood on the offensive line and cornerback position.

The Headline -- The offensive line battle is technically undecided but Derrick Nelson at center and Dorian Miller at left guard have strong leads in their respective battles.

Nelson would start at center if kickoff came tomorrow, coach Kyle Flood said.

“I’m very pleased with Derrick and how he’s produced in training camp,” Flood said. “Derrick is a high-motor guy with high energy and an excellent communicator.”

Miller battled with Tariq Cole at guard and remained with the ones this week.

Worth Noting -- Freshman cornerback Jarius Adams likely begins the season on the two deep for practices after a strong training camp.

“I think right now as we put the sub-packages in, he’s going to be a guy getting reps,” Flood said. “I don’t know if we’ve made a decision beyond that quite yet.”

Scarlet Report Standout -- Sophomore nose tackle Sebastian Joseph – Joseph’s rebound from injury continues. Joseph leads in the nose tackle battle with impressive physical. He contributed on special teams with a field goal block today at practice.

Quote of the Day -- “You have to bring the juice. You have to bring it every day in practice. You can’t rely on the other guys. You have to be the guy to bring it because I’m the nose guard. I have to bring the juice. I have to hype up the defense. All of the first team guys have to bring the juice.”
