Julie Hermann is out as Rutgers athletic director following her Sunday meeting with university president Robert Barchi. Hermann and Barchi met Sunday afternoon and the meeting ended in her departure from the post per mutliple reports.
Hermann's departure comes after the school's he university's office of enterprise risk management, ethics and complianceinvistaged a top-to-bottom review of the football program and potential NCAA violations. The investigation played the primary role in Hermann's departure, sources said.
Rutgers did not yet announce the move formally or unveil its replacement play for Hermann. A quick hire is unlikely, sources said, and there are multiple candidates to fulfil the role in an interim capacity.
Kate Hickey -- senior associate athletic director and senior woman administrator – sits as a candidate . Former dean Carl Kirschner is another option for Rutgers. Kirschner twice served as interim athletic director. He hired Eddie Jordan as men’s basketball coach before Hermann took over the position.
Rutgers graduate Louis Freeh, who is best known in the athletics world for his investigation into Penn State and Joe Paterno is another candidate based on his legal experience and expertise.
