After a fun 48 hours at Rutgers, Orlando (Fla.) Dr. Phillips linebacker Jonathan Pollock has all of the answers he needs before enrollment.
Pollock and fellow incoming linebacker Solomon Manning finalized roommate plans for the spring semester.
“I think him and I got to bond a little bit more than just texting and talking over the phone this weekend,” Pollock said. “I really liked him. I think he really liked me and we have a good bond going. I can’t wait to get to Rutgers and get things going,”
The most important meeting of the weekend for Pollock came when he shook hands with new Rutgers athletic director Pat Hobbs.
Hobbs replaced the fired Julie Hermann two weeks ago. He met Pollock, Manning, running back Trey Sneed and their families before Saturday’s wrestling match.
“He was positive about everything,” Pollock said. “He talked about how us three would be linked together with him. He’d always know our names because we’re the first three guys to go into the program with him.”
Pollock, who visited with his father, attended Saturday’s 17-16 Rutgers wrestling victory over No. 4 Nebraska before a trip into New York.
“The wrestling match was really cool,” Pollock said. “I got to see Rutgers beat Nebraska, so that was awesome. Jimmy Hogan was my host. It was cool just to meet him. We were a lot alike. We got to go to New York City last night. It was really cool. We walked around Times Square and we went to Dave & Busters and that was really fun. I got to try on my jersey for next year too.”
Pollock tried on the black version of the Rutgers uniform but it may not be what he wears in his college debut.
“I talked to [directory of players services Mike Kuzniak] and he talked about coming out with some new jerseys so that should be cool,” he said. “He couldn’t give me anything specific but it should be pretty awesome. That’s what he’s saying and I can’t wait to put on my jersey when I get there.”
