Scarlet Report Discusses Drew Mehringer as Rutgers OC

Rutgers coach Chris Ash made his offensive coordinator hire official Monday afternoon when he formally announced Drew Mehringer of Houston. Mehringer brings a spread background, so what does that mean for the Rutgers personnel? Brian Dohn and Sam Hellman discuss the impact.

What can Rutgers expect in style when it comes to new offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer. On a roster full of pro-style recruits, the up-and-coming Mehringer needs the spread transition to be a gradual one.

As Rutgers moves on from the fingerprints of Ralph Friedgen and Ben McDaniels, Scout's Brian Dohn and Sam Hellman react to the hire of 28-year old Mehringer. Mehringer joins Chris Ash's after a year as a position coach at Houston under Tom Herman's guidance.

"I am excited to welcome Drew to Rutgers football,” Ash said on Mehringer. “Drew is a very intelligent person and great football mind. He has been under the tutelage of Tom Herman so he understands how I want the program structured. Drew will take care of the players and be a great recruiter. He’s one of the next rising offensive stars in college football.”
