Chris Ash Bolsters Rutgers Defensive Staff with Shane Burnham

Rutgers coach Chris Ash announced his defensive line coach Thursday afternoon in former Iowa State assistant Shane Burnham. Burnham joins Jay Niemann, Aaron Henry and Bill Busch on Ash's defensive staff.

Shane Burnham joins the Rutgers coaching staff, coach Chris Ash announced Thursday afternoon. Burham worked with linebackers and special teams at Iowa State this season and replaces Jim Panagos as the defensive line coach for Rutgers.

Burnham joins the staff one day after Ash announced NIU's Jay Niemann as defensive coordinator.

"I am excited to be reunited with Shane here at Rutgers,” Ash said in a statement. “We have worked together in the past and I have always been impressed with the way he teaches, the way he recruits and how he takes care of his players. Shane understands our defense and how we want the defensive line coached in our system.”

Burnham brings six years of coaching experience at defensive tackle before he worked with linebackers in 2015. He recruited Florida well during his time at Iowa State. He worked at Iowa State for two years alongside new Rutgers offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer.
