Chris Ash Rutgers Takeover - Week One Goals

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Rutgers coach Chris Ash made no secrets about intentions to change a struggling football culture for the Scarlet Knights. With Ash now in his first full-time week on the job with his coaching staff, Scout's Brian Dohn and Sam Hellman break down keys to a successful start.

Rutgers coach Chris Ash has plenty of behind-the-scenes work planned for his staff's start to a new regime for the Scarlet Knights. It started Monday with plenty of film sessions at the Hale Center, and an evening meeting with high school coaches from across the Garden State.

"He got a great reception from everyone there,” said former Rutgers assistant and Somerville head coach Kevin Carty Sr. “He did make a point of saying that we haven’t hired anyone with New Jersey connections and defended that point. You can win in California without being from California. I came away with a positive impression and him having a good vision of the way it should be done and I believe he’s going to get the support he needs to do it.”

The recruiting period remains dead but plenty of relationship building is underway. Scout's Brian Dohn and Sam Hellman discuss the important first steps for Ash and his staff before classes resume, players return and assistant coaches hit the road.
