Rutgers OL Commit Elijah Johnson of DeMatha Taking It Slow

HYATTSVILLE, Md. -- Rutgers commit Elijah Johnson of DeMatha has multiple official visits in his sights after the dead period concludes. Johnson spoke with Scout about where he stands with new head coach Chris Ash and other schools involved before National Signing Day.

Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha offensive lineman Elijah Johnson remains committed to Rutgers but also plans to officially visit Boston College before National Signing Day.

Johnson, who took an unofficial visit to Pittsburgh during the season, wants to meet with Rutgers coach Chris Ash before a final decision.

“I just have to feel out the coaches and see if I have a good relationship with the new coaches there," Johnson said. "I thank the old coaches for taking their time recruiting me."

Johnson expects to visit Boston College the weekend of Jan. 22 and Rutgers the following weekend. He seeks a combination of "the players there, the coaching staff and if I like the program overall."

Ash and newly-hired Rutgers offensive line coach AJ Blazek both remain in contact with Johnson.

"I enjoyed the conversations quite a bit," Johnson said. "I look forward to taking an official visit soon. … [Blazek said] he looks forward to coaching me. He wants to get to know me better as a person as well."
