Rutgers could add another coach with Big Ten experience in Jafar Williams, who would move from Purdue running backs coach to the same position under Chris Ash. Football Scoop reports that Williams will be running backs coach for Rutgers.
Williams would complete the full-time positional staff for Ash and joins Drew Mehringer, AJ Blazek and Zak Kuhr with the offense.
"I'm taking my time with it," Ash said Tuesday on his final full-time hire. "I have talked to several people. I'm not in any rush to do it. I want to make sure it's the right fit for the offensive staff, whatever needs I feel like we have left to address as a full staff. I hope to have it filled here fairly quickly. But there's no timetable. I want to make sure it's right more so than just hiring a guy by a certain date."
Williams coached with Purdue since 2013. He coached against Rutgers while with both Kent State and Howard. Williams coached Dri Archer at Kent State during the upset over Rutgers in 2012. Williams grew up in Philadelphia and, after a career at Maryland under Ralph Friedgen, began his coaching career in Bethlehem, Pa. at Moravian.
