Timber Creek LB Tyreek Williams Picks Rutgers

Rutgers coach Chris Ash landed a linebacker commitment Wednesday from Erial (N.J.) Timber Creek's Tyreek Williams. The former Buffalo commit spoke with Scout about the chance to play at home.

A Rutgers offer for Tyreek Williams made National Signing Day clear for the standout Erial (N.J.) Timber Creek linebacker. It was only a matter of time before he joined the Chris Ash class of 2016, he said.

"It was time to go ahead and do it and get it off my chest," he said. "I'm going to the place I want to be. I've always wanted to be there. It's the main school I wanted to be at. It's close to home and convenient for my family to come see at any point. It was the right place to be."

Williams joins a slew of athletic linebackers in Ash's first recruiting class. He represents the fifth commitment at linebacker.

"Coach Ash's defense allows me to do what I do," he said. "It allows me to be aggressive, be dominant, be athletic. At any point, I can do what I do best."

The energy level is high at Timber Creek, Williams said. Williams joins 2017 cornerback Naijee Jones as a Rutgers commit, and sent a special thank you to Scarlet Knight Myles Nash of Timber Creek fame.

"Myles played a big part of this so I thank him, 100 percent," Williams said. " ... Naijee is very excited and I'm grateful that we can be up there together and keep us Jersey guys around. It's special."

Williams made 73 tackles as a senior with the state-champion Chargers and said to expect the same winning attitude for the Scarlet Knights.

"Rutgers fans can expect me to be dominant and be aggressive," he said. "I'm compete. I always go 100 percent and I get the job done. I can't wait to do it for Rutgers."
