Add Georgia's highest rated kicker to the legs that received contact this week from the Rutgers coach staff. The Scarlet Knights and special teams coordinator Vince Okruch are after another kicker after commit Alex Barbir flipped Tuesday to Penn State. Marietta (Ga.) Lassiter kicker Mitchell Wasson received a visit Thursday morning and could be in line for an opportunity.
"It went well," Wasson said. "He just told me about Rutgers, their situation and we are going to talk again after my Alabama visit."
Wasson has a slew of preferred walk-on opporunities and will visit Alabama Saturday before he explores the latest developments at Rutgers. The Scout three-star kicker ranks as the fifth best in the South and 15th in the class of 2016.
"Mitchell Wasson has one of the biggest legs in the country," said Luke Gaddis of One on One Kicking's New Jersey division. "[He has] a touchback percentage over 90 percent out of high school. Not only that , but Mitchell handles pressure with the best of them. He is no doubt one of the best kickers in the country and I find it completely shocking he is still available. He would be a major key to any FBS Program in the country."
