Scout TV: Coach Steve Pikiell Breaks it Down After Rutgers Introduction

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- From center court at the RAC, new head coach Steve Pikiell handled a variety of questions from the press after his official Rutgers induction. Pikiell discussed assistant coaches, his Connecticut ties, recruiting and a budding relationship with Chris Ash.

Say what you want about Rutgers and its lowly position on the college basketball hierarchy. For new head coach Steve Pikiell, it's a job he wanted long before the rebuild took place during a decade at Stony Brook.

"We will make this a destination for athletes in this state and in other states, worldwide, across the ocean," Pikiell said. "I have a little saying: In order to achieve, you must believe. I believe in President Barchi. I believe in Pat Hobbs. I believe in myself."

From women's basketball to gymnastics, Pikiell had a strong support from new coworkers at his introduction. That includes a budding relationship with new football coach Chris Ash -- Pat Hobbs' first hire as athletic director.

"He was awesome and I thanked him 100 times for calling," Pikiell said. "... Basketball and football are always joined at the hip. As his program does well it helps my program. As my program does well, it helps his program. Our recruiting trips are going to be based around football games."
