QB Commit Johnathan Lewis Wants to Lead for Rutgers 2017 Recruiting Class

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peter's Prep quarterback Johnathan Lewis made a statement Friday night with his verbal commitment to Rutgers. Lewis, the state's top 2017 quarterback, broke down his decision and the next step as a leader for the Scarlet Knights.

On Johnathan Lewis announcing Rutgers...

"It was a big thing, especially ending my recruitment so early even though I'm a quarterback. It was a great feeling."

On announcing...

"I just wanted probably put it all in a note saying thank you to all of the coaches for recruiting me and my family and God for giving me the opportunity to do this. My parents just said I can do that later, after. She told me to be creative, so I created a video.

"We already have a few big recruits and we're trying to get a few more. ... I'm very excited. You saw from the video, where I threw to Everett Wormley. I'm so excited."

On adjusting to Rutgers offense...
