Rutgers, Indiana and Temple saw on film what Hightstown (N.J.) Peddie School 2018 outside linebacker Javar Garrett showed on a big stage at Sunday's Opening Regional event.
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound prospect was one of the top underclassmen on defense at the event after he recently reclassified to 2018.
“Everything is going well with recruiting,” Garrett said. “It's starting to really pick up after I reclassified to Peddie. It's just a better opportunity for me with my academics. The facilities are great, and there is access to them all time.”
Garrett added Rutgers and Indiana offers in late April. The Scarlet Knights issued one in person during their April 23 spring game.
“It was great,” Garrett said. “I've been waiting for a Rutgers offer for a while, ever since the old staff. At the spring game, coach [Jay] Niemann, the defensive coordinator, brought me into the locker room after it was over. He gave me the news. He was excited about it like me.”
Rutgers projected Garrett as an outside linebacker, he said.
Garrett keyed on linebacker during the spring game.
“I liked it a lot,” he said. “Their team is way more intense than it was last year. I saw a lot of hard hits. They read the holes a lot better. Before, they would miss a lot of tackles.”
