An unofficial Wednesday visit to the Rutgers campus has the Scarlet Knights “high up” on the list for Montvale (N.J.) St. Joseph Regional linebacker Louis Acceus.
Acceus returned to campus, this time with offered 2018 teammate Dorian Hardy, and left with an improved perception of the school.
“I liked that I got a chance to speak with the coaches and the players during the visit,” he said. “The coaches were saying I would love it at Rutgers because I fit perfectly in their defense. Having a Rutgers degree would help me in the future with my successes in life.”
Acceus has entrepreneurial as an adult, and took an interest in the business school.
“[Playing time] isn't as important to me as other parts because, of course I want to be able to play but achieving my goals with an education is important,” he said. “I want to start my own business some day.”
Acceus did not meet with strength coach Kenny Parker, who was out of town. He, instead, learned about a “high intensity” from watching workout videos with former teammate Kevin Wilkins.
“He sat in a meeting with us and he said how much he loves it at Rutgers,” Acceus said. “[He told me about] how much it's changed and about the new staff. They never want to go home. They really like it there and I said that I would too.”
Rutgers checks in alongside Maryland, N.C. State, North Carolina and Boston College as schools that stand out so far. He plans to visit as many schools as possible this summer.
“I haven't been able to visit a lot of places yet,” Acceus said. “But I like Rutgers and their defense. … They do a lot of the same things as the St. Joe's defense. It's pretty good and they would have me do a lot of different things.”
