Rutgers hosted Middletown (N.J.) Mater Dei three-star receiver Eddie Lewis again last week, and continues its recruitment of one of the top athletes in the state.
Lewis visited Saturday evening with friends. He spoke after the visit on the phone again.
“It was good, great actually,” Lewis said. “It was fun. We were just there talking to the coaches. It was just like a regular day hanging out.
“... [We talked about] the same things as usual. They want me to come, and we can start a trend with players like me if I went there. I spoke to the on the phone after, and they asked me how I thought about playing there because they thought I could be a big contributor for them.”
Rutgers' recruitment of Lewis goes beyond coach Chris Ash and offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer.
“Jafar Williams is the wide receivers coach, and he's definitely recruiting me hard,” Lewis said. }[Quarterback commit] Johnathan Lewis is talking to me too and also [cornerback commit] Bryce Watts. He wants me to come there bad.”
Lewis does not feel close to a decision with multiple summer visits on tap.
“Everything is going good,” he said. “Most recently, I received an offer from Indiana University, and that's looking good. I like their offense. … [I'm] Trying to take some visits in the summertime now, since everything is quieter. I'm going to try to use that to cut down to my top five.”
What does Lewis need to see on upcoming visits?
“I just want to be somewhere that I can feel at home,” he said. “That's what I'm looking for.”
