Spring Impact: S Anthony Cioffi

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Anthony Cioffi found a new role in the Rutgers defense, and made the most out of it during 15 spring practices. Scarlet Report spoke with Cioffi about an offseason of change and how he embraced it.

Safety Anthony Cioffi on new spring role...

"It's been very good. It was just something to get used to in the beginning. Right now, practice 13, it's something we're all accustomed to."

On spring adjustments for the team...

"I think as far as the workouts and coming to practice, practice is a whole different style than what we were used to. That was the biggest adjustment."

On fan support...

"There are a lot of fans out there, we need a lot of support for this new Ash Era, what they call it. We need everybody behind us and we need to get Rutgers back on the map."

Have you taken the new coaches to Cioffi's Deli?

"No, I haven't yet."

On growing in a new system...

"I'm very accustomed to it now, and it's something that needed to be done. As a whole team, we're rallied behind the coaching staff. We're really paying attention to their teachings."

On playing for Chris Ash, who has defensive backs experience...

"It's a huge advantage. The knowledge he has for the game is impeccable. It's something that we needed."

Playing multiple positions...

"It's strong [safety] right now, but I can move to free. They're both interchangeable."

On new Rutgers offense...

"There's a lot of zone reads and a lot of passes down the field, getting the ball out, hurrying up. It's tempo. It's going to help us out in the long run with Indiana and Ohio State and those teams like that. ... They're really growing each practice and they're putting new wrinkles in. With new wrinkles, there's always a little glitch here and there. They're handling everything very well."
