Flanked by friends, family, support system and teammates, Edwin Lopez symbolically walked the perimeter of Camden (N.J.) Woodrow Wilson High's football field before a game-changing announcement Wednesday regarding his future.
New Jersey's top cornerback made his family and his school proud when he announced his future minutes later -- a verbal commitment to Rutgers and head football coach Chris Ash.
"This wasn't a hard decision but today is the day that I had to make a decision to commit," Lopez said. "After speaking with my coaches and my family, I feel as though New Brunswick is the place to be, so I'll be committing to Rutgers University in New Brunswick."
Lopez joins Navy commit Jelani McCargo as the second senior headed for FBS football at Wilson High.
"He is a cerebral assassin," said Wilson head coach Preston Brown. "He is not rah-rah kind of guy in terms of the hootin’ and hollerin’ and things like that. But he has a stern look in his eye that you know he is always ready to go. When I first got the job we had a workout and he was clearly the most-gifted athletically."
