Columbiana (Ohio) Crestview three-star defensive end Jordan Murphy has options, and after his performance Saturday at a Rutgers camp, he hopes to add another one.
The Rutgers staff has plenty of ties to Ohio, and after contact from the staff during spring evaluation, the Murphy family traveled to New Jersey for camp, and made a weekend out of it.
"We got a good workout and definitely got our money's worth," Murphy said. "It's not only that, I got some very good fundamental work as far as defensive line drills. We went through a lot of different swim moves and got off low blocks and it's very beneficial."
Murphy was one of two defensive linemen, alongside Travis Tolomei, that received significant attention from position coach Shane Burnham and head coach Chris Ash during the afternoon session.
"Coach Burnham just wanted me and the other kid to get in some extra work with him, so they can film me and evaluate me," Murphy said. "We haven't spoken too far yet about an offer or what I need to do. That's part of filming me and evaluating I guess. ...They've said on the phone that they wanted to see me perform and see how I move and we'd go from there."
Iowa State, Air Force, Toledo and Akron are among Murphy's early verbal scholarship offers.
Confident after a strong start to the June camp circuit, Murphy looks forward to more competition in the offseason.
"I loved Rutgers and I hope every camp can be like this one," Murphy said. "It's a great way to learn, and I love the competition."
