Wayne Hills (N.J.) 2017 receiver Tyler Hayek is the newest member of the Rutgers recruiting class after a final visit to campus solidified his commitment.
Hayek verbally committed to coach Chris Ash after he showcased his skills at two June camps.
“I went into practice the other day and a bunch of my coaches were like 'what are you doing. Why aren't you taking the offer?' I thought about it and I realized they were right,” Hayek said. “There's no reason not to. Why not? It's Big Ten football. Then I told all of the coaches, talked to coach [Chris] Ash.”
Hayek picked up his offer on Tuesday, and it did not take long to call Ash.
Hayek spoke with the Rutgers coaches over the weekend, and it ended in a commitment.
“They just told me welcome aboard and it was great to have me with them,” he said. “I think I [bring them] speed. I make them plays, and can create some excitement.”
Rutgers also showcased its academics during a weekend visit.
“I went on a tour and saw everything with the academics,” he said. “I liked it a lot. I liked everything I saw.”
So what can Rutgers fans expect?
“Speed, lots of speed,” Hayek said. “I want to make big plays down field, big catches.”
