Video: Rutgers DT Darius Hamilton at Big Ten Media Day

CHICAGO -- Rutgers fifth-year senior Darius Hamilton embraced the spotlight at Big Ten Media Day. Hamilton opens up about football away from Leonte Carroo and his personal injury concerns.

Rutgers DT Darius Hamilton on leading during his injury year...

I get my point across one way or the next. Not everyone agrees with it but sometimes I believe tough love is the best love, especially when it's someone you know can do better. I'm a real “on you” guy all the time. I just expect the best from some people.

On Pat Hobbs and the direction of the program...

I think they've also been doing a great job as far as recruiting, as far as building a new weight room. I think that they've come in and they've made an impact right off the bat and it's a great thing to see.”

On senior sense of urgency...

The clock is ticking every day. Every day I wake up is a day I'll never get back here at Rutgers. I'm just trying to make the most out of it.”

On separation from Leonte Carroo after eight years together...

It's really strange. I still keep in contact with him. I talk to him probably every other day. I saw him last time he was home. It's definitely somebody I miss having around, not just as a leader, but as a playmaker. I know he's moving on to bigger and better things.”

On the importance of team unity during tough times...

Family and friends are the most important. You've got to be there for one another. Any time you lose somebody, it's never a good feeling. My best wishes go out to the family and friends [of Sam Foltz and Mike Sadler].”

On His Injury Situation...

I'm pretty tired of it but at the end of the day, I have to answer the questions I have to answer. They're good questions. I'm not going to sit here and lie to you. I'm close. I'm very close to being back to 100 percent – the closest I've ever been.”

On Managing His Injuries...

I appreciate that [Chris Ash] respects my opinion. I'm a trust-worthy person, someone that's going to tell the truth, never beat around the bush. I'll let him know exactly what's up with my body at all times.”
