Video: DT Julian Pinnix-Odrick at Big Ten Media Day

CHICAGO -- Veteran Rutgers defensive end Julian Pinnix-Odrick speaks at Big Ten Media Day about why he bought in early with new coach Chris Ash.

Julian Pinnix-Odrick on Chris Ash's background and buying in...

Who else would you want telling you how to win a championship than somebody who's done it? You've seen it first hand. I feel like coach Ash isn't just cookie-cutter. He won a championship. He understands that this isn't the same team. Every team is different every year. Every Rutgers team is different. He understands that there are certain concepts he wants to get across but he also understands he has to adjust them sometimes for different types of people.”

On Darius Hamilton's return...

He's somebody in the house. He's just antsy. He's sitting there shaking his leg ready to go. I don't want to talk about this anymore. I can't wait. I just want to play. He understands himself. That's cool, I've been out for a year. I don't expect anybody to expect anything of me. It's cool. Just watch. Believe me, I'm his biggest fan besides his family. I'm really waiting.”

On rugby tackling...

That's the game. Tackling is the game. Wherever you go, you have to tackle great. The fact that coach Ash has really studied how people tackle besides the traditional way how everybody practices, it's awesome. I've had discussions with coaches about it. It's not just a thing. … We probably spent a half hour in a team meeting, not to mention all of the position meetings talking about the new form of tackling in a general sense.”
