Video: Rutgers OL Marcus Applefield Confident against Minnesota

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Rutgers replaced an injured JJ Denman with Marcus Applefield Saturday at right tackle. Whatever role Applefield carries against Minnesota, the sophomore lineman explains why his confidence is high.

Rutgers offensive lineman Marcus Applefield on changing quarterbacks...

To us, it means nothing really. We're just going to have to do our jobs. It's going to stay the same cadence, just a different voice back there, but they're all pretty similar. For us, we're just going to keep doing our jobs and try to protect him as best as possible. … All of the quarterbacks, they practice similarities. That's one thing that's big on them – keeping their cadence, their voices very similar. Hopefully the line picks it up fast and we get going.”

On how the offense reacted to the change...

I think everyone is just trying to work to the best of their abilities. Every unit is just trying to make each other better. As an offense as a whole, we're trying to be cohesive.”

On Minnesota on film...

When it comes to up front, I think we can dominate up front. I think we can get the ball rolling very similar to Illinois and how we get the ball rolling. We just need to keep the turnovers to very minimal, hopefully none at all.”

On moving the ball on offense...

I guess it's just one of those things where you can't really think about it. You've just got to go on to the next play. OK, here we go. We're going on to the next play. Not 'let's score.' I'll be trying not to look back. Obviously we're going to go back and fix those mistakes if there was any. Other than that, we're just going to move on.”

On offensive line coach AJ Blazek...

I think AJ is a great guy. He definitely has a very close and personal connection to every offensive lineman as a unit. One thing I really like about him is he knows how to adapt to every single player. Some old school coaches, some scream and some don't talk at all. He can do both. He knows how to talk to certain guys and he does it very well.”
