Rutgers Trend Meter: Dec. 26 Update

Scarlet Report takes members inside the process with the first "trend meter" of the offseason recruiting period. Who is Rutgers after and where do the Scarlet Knights stand? Insiders can get the latest.

Following recruiting is a bit of an emotional rollercoaster ride, especially in visit season. For experts, handicapping recruitments is a dubious endeavor. Recruiting is incredibly volatile, obviously, since it’s based on the whims of teenagers that have an enormous amount of pressure on them from many different adults.

Predicting where a recruit goes is far too unpredictable. Fans, though, always want to know the latest buzz on each recruit so we thought the best thing to do is put together a latest trend meter, kind of a stock report on whether Rutgers’ and Chris Ash’s chances with the recruit are going up, down or sideways. We’ve talked to various Scout experts, prospects and sources around the country and this is the latest trend for prospects and visit targets for Rutgers. The beauty of this is that as the trend changes we can change that little arrow as we approach National Signing Day. Keep checking back here while we constantly update the trend meter.

http://www.scout.com/player/200254-zion-debose?s=183

Rutgers defensive line coach Shane Burnham made a positive impression during last week's in-home visit. Debose locked in an official visit, and cited playing time and academics as deciding factors. Rutgers offers both. Debose hit Missouri last weekend, which just picked up a commitment from Isaiah Miller – a Rutgers target at running back.

Official Visit Date: Jan. 27

http://www.scout.com/player/208733-ryan-thaxton?s=183

Former Virginia commit Ryan Thaxton saw a good time at Rutgers but has a ton of official visits in January that play a role in a final decision. Rutgers made the most-recent cut of schools. The staff told Thaxton he has a spot should he want to commit.

Syracuse, Temple, Tulane and Purdue are among schools to watch .

http://www.scout.com/player/200532-tyree-johnson?s=183

Texas A&M commit Tyree Johnson gave Rutgers and coach Chris Ash glowing reviews at the end of his official visit last week. Johnson had a good Maryland visit before the dead period, but Texas A&M should get the last, and strongest, word.

Official Visit Date: Dec. 2

http://www.scout.com/player/207421-tijaun-mason?s=183

Defensive end Tijaun Mason formally parted ways with Purdue last week. While he still calls the Boilermakers and Toledo options, Rutgers and defensive line coach Shane Burnham quickly built a relationship with Mason's family with a New Year's Eve announcement date set.

http://www.scout.com/player/209406-tucker-day?s=183
