Coach Steve Pikiell on Eugene Omoruyi, "“I love his toughness. That’s what keeps him in the lineup. He has a chance to be one of our better passers and we’re not a great passing team. He’s a good rebounder. Really, it’s his toughness that has helped our team in a lot of ways."
Eugene Omoruyi comments -- "First of all I'm honored. I just want to keep bringing high intensity to the starting lineup and show people what I want them to see in me. That's like high intensity and hard work."
On new responsibilities -- "[Coach Pikiell] is asking me to look at the basket, and if I have a lane, take it to the basket. I'm a real good free throw shooter so I can get fouled.
On learning of starting role -- "We talked about it, but I was surprised at first. I'm really embracing it right now. ... I was really happy but I didn't want to show it. I just switched the jersey around to red and acted normal. It felt really good."
On transition from Canada -- "Last year when I was in prep school, I was stronger than a lot of guys. This year coming now, a lot of guys are stronger than I am. I'm just finding ways to adapt and finding other ways to score."
