Mike Teel Taking Over for Legendary Greg Toal at Don Bosco Prep

Former Rutgers quarterback and team captain Mike Teel is in line to replace long-time coach Greg Toal at Ramsey (N .J.) Don Bosco Prep.

The Don Bosco Prep and Rutgers football families strengthened Thursday morning with a groundbreaking change underway in Ramsey, N.J.

Long-time, legendary Don Bosco Prep coach Greg Toal ended his tenure with the program after he stepped down. His protegee, and Rutgers legend of his own, Mike Teel takes over the program, sources told Scarlet Report.

Don Bosco Prep is expected to formally announce the move later this morning with a 12:30 p.m., press conference also scheduled at the school.

Teel played five seasons at Rutgers, including two as a team captain. His on-field accolades included a bowl MVP trophy as a senior and school records in passing yards (9.383), season touchdowns (25) and single-game touchdowns (seven).

“You've got to get better every day,” Teel told Scarlet Report last week. “You've got to be consistent, and you've got to work every day. As good as you might have played or you were last week, there's still a way to get better. You always have to get better. That's been the thing I learned from coach [Greg] Schiano at Rutgers and also coach Toal before and after him. You're always striving to be the absolute best.”

After stints with three NFL teams as a 2009 Draft pick, Teel coached with Rutgers, Wagner and Kean before a return to his high-school alma mater in 2015.

Toal won his 300th game in September after 17 years with the program. One of New Jersey's top talent-producing programs, Toal's pipeline to Rutgers included Teel, wide receiver Leonte Carroo, quarterback Gary Nova and defensive tackle Darius Hamilton.

"I can write a whole book about what coach Toal means to me -- the greatest high-school football coach ever," said former Rutgers and Don Bosco quarterback Gary Nova. "[He] impacted so many lives by instilling mental toughness in every player. he taught everyone to be high character guys and deal with adversity head on. ... Teel will be great. Playing quarterback for coach Toal is a very demanding job. If anyone understands the expectations and tradition of that program, it's Mike Teel. The guy really knows football, very knowledgeable of the game."
