Cheshire LB Dillon Harris Updates Recruitment after Recent Rutgers Visit

Rutgers remains active in recruiting Cheshire (Conn.) Academy and 2017 linebacker Dillon Harris is the latest visitor with serious interest.

Linebacker Dillon Harris went into his Rutgers junior day experience with solid relationships but left with an even better feeling about the program and one of his earliest offers.

A 2017 teammate of Rutgers offensive lineman Samuel Vretman, Harris got a personal look at Piscataway from the Swedish big man.

“Sam Vretman really showed me around on campus,” Harris said. “I met up with him and Micah Clark and we just went around and saw the locker rooms and the team room and made me feel comfortable. So far, Sam loves it. He said socially, academically and physically, his growth has been tremendous. It started as soon as he set foot on campus.”

Harris met with multiple coaches, including defensive coordinator Jay Niemann during the weekend visit.

“They see me ranging from WILL backer to MIKE to a low-down safety type of player,” Harris said. “They like my versatility and that's why they're recruiting me.”

Harris enjoyed a traditional junior day experience and has interest in a return trip during spring practice.

“The coaches there are phenomenal,” Harris said. “I get a great vibe from them. As far as my position coach and all the way up to coach Ash, I feel like it would be a great group of potential coaches for me in the future.”

Harris named Maryland and Connecticut as the schools recruiting him hardest alongside Rutgers. His first junior day of the offseason was earlier in February to Syracuse.

“It's very humbling,” Harris said. “I've been working hard for a very long time and I'm thinking about how each university will help me grow as a young man. I'm looking for a school that will prepare me academically, socially and help me with a network of a whole bunch of people that set me up for life after football. The decision I'm making isn't about three or four years of college football. It's about setting up my life.”
